Techniques
Your body is unique. To effectively treat your body, I first pinpoint the cause of your problem. Then I custom-blend techniques I've learned and practiced for 25+ years, to get the response you want. Click on the technique names below for more information about the modalities clients most often ask about.
Strain-CounterStrain
Positioning technique to dissolve your painful tender points
The Trager ® Approach
Repatterns your soft tissue and nervous system. I was a Certified Trager® Practitioner for over 25 years and this approach continues to influence my work. I still practice neuromusclar reeducation.
Muscle Energy Technique
Balances your muscles and restores joint function.
Cranial direct and indirect techniques
Corrects restrictions in your skull.
Myofascial Release
Painlessly releases your tight muscles.
Manual Lymph Drainage
Stimulates movement of fluids in your tissues.
Chapman's Reflexes
Releases tissue congestion.
Strain-CounterStrain
Scientifically based, Strain- CounterStrain is very gentle and non-invasive. It uses passive and painless positioning to reduce your pain and spasm while improving your motion and function.
What people most often say after experiencing the Strain-CounterStrain technique is "How did you do that? That's like magic!"
This technique "dissolves" your painful tender points, even ones that have persisted for years.
Here's how the technique works: you simply relax while I slowly move a part of your body, depending on where your pain is. I hold you in that position for a minute or two to allow you to reset. Upon pressing that tender point again, you'll notice at least a 70% decrease in pain!
Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
Muscle Energy Technique helps restore healthy motion to your joints, especially in your spine and pelvis. It combines a way of determining where areas of dysfunction exist, and a means of correcting them.
Careful examination of your tissues to determine the degree and quality of their movement gives me information about where your joints or muscles are not functioning optimally.
Your joints' specific motion restriction is identified and engaged; light muscle contractions reset the tone of your joints' opposing muscles, restoring functional movement.
MET is gentle, painless, and produces immediate changes that are long lasting.
Cranial direct and indirect techniques
Your skull is a dynamic structure, which responds to strains from your body and cervical spine as well as birth traumas and other direct traumas.
I use gentle techniques grounded in scientific concepts to address restrictions in the subtle motion of your skull and its membranes.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is another effective technique that gently treats your muscles and their enveloping connective tissue, the fascia. Your restrictions are engaged and allowed to release at their own rate, resulting in ease of movement and improved circulation.
Myofascial release often leads to dramatic changes in the tonicity, or tightness, in your body. I might use it for a whole limb or for a surface area such as your back, or a single muscle.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
The Dr. Emil Vodder method of manual lymph drainage (MLD) is a hands-on, therapeutic method of stimulating the movement of fluids in your tissues. The gentle, rhythmic, pumping, massage movements follow the direction of your lymph flow and produce rapid results.
The effects of MLD are numerous. Generally it affects the nervous system, smooth muscles, and fluid movement in the connective tissue. Through the pumping and stretching effect on your lymph vessels, MLD stimulates the contraction of your lymph vessels, moves your lymph forward and drains your connective tissue.
What is your lymph system? Your lymph system is responsible for carrying excess water, proteins and wastes from your connective tissue back to your blood stream. If the pathways become congested, blocked, damaged or severed, then fluids can build up in your connective tissue, leading to swelling and damage to tissues. Manual lymph drainage removes the blockage and allows your lymph system to transport the damaged cells, inflammatory products and toxins away from the area. The quicker this happens, the faster your recovery occurs.
Chapman's Reflexes
Chapman's Reflexes work with specific areas of tissue congestion and tenderness at points located on the front and back of your body that re late to internal organs and glands.
When stimulated, they improve organ function through your nervous system, and enhance your immune system.
